This is a cool way of thinking about this, but I disagree with some of the specifics. I've had the best work-life balance working close to the smiley face because it encouraged me to stop at 5 and leave work at work. And working close to the smiley face helps me be more productive as a person with ADHD, so if we are considering neurological differences an aspect of diversity, being closer to the heart can be detrimental to diversity & inclusion too. I know a lot of people have the opposite experience as me, but it's not the same for everyone.

That's totally right! And I may have failed to make it clear in the article, but everything of course depends on your particular situation (I try to allude to that in the final paragraph) - I would never believe it's the same for everybody. And that's a great point you make about neurological diversity! Would you think your experience with ADHD - that you work better closer to the smiley - is generalizable to most people with ADHD? Do you have some references to read up more on that? I declare myself ignorant on the subject, but always willing to learn.

Can't find it now but I saw an unscientific poll of ADHDers on Reddit where most said they prefer office work, but a decently large minority said they prefer WFH. Don't know if there's any actual research.
